But the one thing you need to know up front is that everyone started off right where you are, struggling and frustrated.
Most just gave up but some of us stuck it out and figured out exactly what works and how to get results that build big bank accounts.
You are here so I can only assume that you are the kind of person that is not going to take no for an answer and you are willing to do whatever it takes to get results.
I will be honest, where you are now to where you want to be is not that far away, in fact if you listen to what I am about to tell you, you could be making money a lot sooner than you think.
Here is where most marketers say “the secret to your success is inside this training course and you can buy it here”.
None of that here, I am not trying to sell you on anything except proven methods that have worked time and time again for myself and the thousands of other online marketers who have built their online business into a full time income.
So with that, let’s take a look at why you are failing at affiliate marketing.
Why You Are Failing At Affiliate Marketing
There are several reasons that could be the cause of you not making money online, here are some of the most common mistakes that people who fail at affiliate marketing make:
1. No Planning – by this I simply mean taking the time in advance to develop a plan of attack and setting realistic goals for your new online business.
Notice I said business, that is exactly what we are dealing with here, a real business.
Planning out your new affiliate marketing business is a crucial step in your success or failure, do it and you chances of success go way up, skip it and you will have a long road ahead of you.
Remember the old saying “Those who fail to plan, plan to fail”, makes perfect sense when you think about it.
When you sit down to develop a plan for your business and set your business goals, you should be asking yourself these questions:
- What’s your “WHY”, why are you doing this in the first place and what would it mean to you if you do in fact find success online.
- What are your goals for your new online business?
- What’s your niche going to be?
- What products will you promote?
- What traffic generation sources will you use to drive traffic to your affiliate sites?
- What keywords will you target?
- What does the competition look like for your niche?
- What obstacles do you predict and what will you do when they show up?
- How will you scale your business?
I would recommend having a definite answer to each of these questions, they can change over time, but actually take the time to plan out your business in advance.
Once you have this plan in place and have set goals for you to shoot for, your business will then have direction and purpose and you will not just be out “winging it” everyday.
2. Promoting Wrong Product – as an affiliate marketer, you can promote just about anything you want, products or services, digital or physical, the choice is up to you, but you want to make money so picking the right products to promote is critical to your success.
Most new marketers don’t think much about the products they promote, they just look at how much they will make per sale.
This is a terrible way to pick a product, while this is a factor there are several others that should come first, including:
- How many people want to buy the product you are promoting?
- How many other marketers are competing with you?
- How long do you see this product remaining popular?
- How much will you make per sale?
- How will you market this product?
These are just a few examples of the types of questions I ask myself when choosing a new affiliate product to promote, I recommend that you do the same.
You really need to know these things before you invest your time in building a website, creating content, seo and all the other parts of generating traffic to your affiliate site.
One of the things I really try hard to figure out is, how long the product will remain popular.
I would hate to spend a couple days developing an affiliate site for a product that no one wants 6 months from now, some people love it but I want products that will generate income for several months, years down the road.
Its very easy to get caught up in promoting super popular big ticket items like electronics but we all know that they are constantly changing and by the time you get your affiliate site to page 1 of search engines it has been replaced by the latest model.
3. Lack of Consistency – need I say more? ok I will.
The fact is, most people who are getting started in affiliate marketing are working a full time job and are looking either to just make some extra cash or to build a business that will one day replace their job.
Because of this, they do not take their online business seriously and do not understand that to be successful in this business you have to be consistent and work on your business each and every day until you reach the level you desire.
Founder of Empower Network, Dave Wood always preaches, “the key to success in this business is blogging daily”, this couldn’t be more true.
Kinda reminds me of an old saying, “if you want to live like no one else, you have to live like no one else”
No one blogs daily, or do they?
Yes, many of us do because we know that by blogging daily we not only become better bloggers but we increase our chances of our content being found in the search engines which in turns creates more opportunities for us connect with customers who want to buy what we are promoting.
My personal goal is 2,000 words or 2 blog posts per day.
That is a little aggressive for someone just getting started but your goal should be to create fresh quality content on a consistent regular basis.
4. Information Overload – lets face it, there are literally thousands of online marketers out there who offer free training to new affiliate marketers, many of them do so in order to get you on their email list so they can send you additional training and recommend training products to you.
As a new affiliate marketer, you are hungry for training and information that will decrease the learning curve and get you results as fast as possible so you have probably already signed up for several of these email lists and possibly already purchased a couple training courses.
Be careful because before you know it you will all these people who’s email list you are on will be emailing you daily recommending new products for you to buy.
It is very easy to get caught up in what we call the “shiny object syndrome” where you are jumping from one product to the next and never really making any progress on your business.
This happens to a lot of us, hell when I first got started, I probably bought 20 or more training courses and was one just about everyone’s email list.
I found that I was spending more time reading emails than actually taking action on any of the training I was receiving.
Don’t let this happen to you, do your research and pick one training course that you can commit to, pick one or two mentors and subscribe to their emails, unsubscribe from the rest.
Stay focused by setting daily goals for what you want to accomplish that day, focus on your to do list before you allow for distractions like reading emails.
5. Giving Up To Easily – what I am about to say should come as no surprise, making money as an affiliate marketer is not something that is going to happen overnight.
In fact it could take you weeks or even months before you start making money, but eventually you will break through and find your way.
Most people get drawn in by hyped up sales videos designed to get you to buy a training course that tells you how easy affiliate marketing is and how you will be making thousands of dollars next week.
We all know that if it was really that easy everyone would be doing it and no one would be going to jobs that they hate, it just doesn’t work that way.
There are stories of people who made a killing in there first month in affiliate marketing but these are few and far between.
Most successful affiliate marketers will tell you how they struggled for a long time before breaking through and finding success, you just have to ask yourself if you have what it takes to actually learn this business and do whatever it takes to be successful.
So, do you have what it takes to be successful as an affiliate marketer?
or are you just like the tens of thousands of other marketers who are going to give up when they see that it is not as easy as that hyped up sales video said it would be.
The choice is yours, you can and will be successful as an affiliate marketer when you decide that failure for you is not an option and they are going to do whatever it takes to be successful, then take consistent action towards your success.
